I lost my mother at the age of 59, and her early passing is always a constant reminder that life is for living NOW – don’t wait for a someday that might never come!
So, 2022 has been the year to turn things around and start investing in myself again.
I’ve been fortunate to rekindle my love of travel, visiting the UK to spend time with family and friends, and I’ve taken trips to some wonderful places with friends and loved ones. I’ve most definitely filled up my cup!
In addition to these trips, the three main areas I’ve personally invested in this year are my health, my personal development, and community connections.
Investing in my health
Hands down the best investment I’ve made this year was attending a health retreat in Portugal.
The Juicemaster Retreat was filled with strong women taking time out for themselves. Ladies attending included a mother of 8 children and, another successful entrepreneur, who is a mother of 5 children all under the age of 5!
These women really showed me that ultimately there’s no excuse to be putting our self-care off – if they can do it with multiple children and businesses then we all can!
The reality is, if you don’t take proper care of yourself, how on earth can you take care of others! You must fill your cup first, otherwise you’ll find yourself in the dangerous territory of burnout.
You are so much more than a wife, mother, employee, business owner…
What do you truly want for your life?
In my earlier blog ‘Financial Planning Begins with Life Planning’ I asked three big questions – take some time to read and reflect on them. Don’t let the end of your life come rushing in and have regrets, there is nothing worse than that!
The ultimate investment you can ever make is in your own health – it’s the most precious thing we have and yet, more than anything else, we all too often take our health for granted. For many of us, the only time we think about it is when we lose it. Then the realization hits us full force – without our health, we have nothing!
There’s an Italian proverb that says…
“He who knows good health is rich, though he knows it not.”
Most of us will have felt the truth of these words even when we had something minor, and were bed ridden.
The irony of this was not lost on me when I returned from the health retreat in Portugal with Covid!
I’d felt full of resolve to do everything I could to maintain my newfound energy, however because of Covid I had to rest in my house for a good 2 weeks!
During this period the slogan of the Juicemaster Retreat resonated at an even deeper level for me…
“Sometimes the only way to move forward is to retreat”
Investing in my personal development
I love to take a multidimensional approach to my personal development. And this year my main areas of priority and focus were money, leadership, and mind/body.
Here are the amazing women that I invested in…
Investing in community connections
In a world of inequality, it’s women supporting women that brings so much joy and purpose to my work.
I believe one of the best ways we can come together and support each other is through empowering communities.
A great platform of women supporting women is Women Rock Switzerland. This is a Facebook community founded by Denise Nickerson and Michelle Guiliano.
Their mission is to unleash human potential through their coaching programmes, and you can find out more about what they offer here.
These two powerhouse women have also collaborated with 31 women living in Switzerland, who come from diverse backgrounds, and countries that span the earth, to write the book ‘Inspired Journeys’ – which is an anthology of profoundly captivating stories.
When you read these women’s stories (some of whom I personally know), I’m certain you’ll be inspired by their strength and courage.
Whether you’re interested in love or betrayal, a life filled with variety or consistency, whether you’re considering career options or an international move, get carried away by ‘Inspired Journeys’!
If you’re concerned about climate action, social justice, gender equality, immigration, freedom from religious persecution, motherhood, shamanism, or sports, or whether you’ve personally faced harassment, miscarriage, bankruptcy, or abuse, let these deeply human, tightly woven stories reach you with their intimacy and authenticity.
